US WITHDRAWS FROM IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL

On May 8, 2018, United States ("US") President Trump announced his decision to withdraw the US' participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action ("JCPOA"), and to begin re-instating the US nuclear-related sanctions, following a wind-down period. According to the Presidents statement:

FedEx to pay USD 500,000 for violating the US export control regime

On 26 April 2018, Federal Express Corporation ("FedEx"), agreed to pay the Bureau of Industry and Security (the "BIS") USD 500,000 in order to settle claims related to the apparent violation of the United States ("US") export control regime. BIS determined, that between July 2011 and January 2012, FedEx committed 53 violations of Section 764.2 (b) of the Export Administration Regulations("EAR"), namely by causing, aiding and abetting unlicensed exports to entities on the Entity List.

Ontzegging opgelegd aan ZTE Corporation

23 april 2018

Op 16 april jl. heeft het Bureau of Industry and Security ("BIS") een ontzegging opgelegd aan het Chinese bedrijf ZTE Corporation voor het niet naleven door dit Chinese bedrijf van de voorwaarden van een in 2017 getroffen schikking tussen BIS en ZTE Corporation. ZTE Corporation zou onder meer valse verklaringen hebben afgelegd tijdens de onderhandelingen over deze schikking en daarna over het naleven door ZTE Corporation van de schikking.

Australian man charged for violating UN and Australian North Korea sanctions regime

On 17 December 2017, an Australian man was charged for violating the United Nations ("UN") and Australian North Korea sanctions regime. According to the Australian Federal Police ("AFP"), the man acted as an economic agent for the Government of North Korea in Australia. The AFP have alleged, that he was involved in brokering the sale of missiles and missile components and expertise from North Korea to other international entities and attempting to transfer coal from North Korea to entities in Indonesia and Vietnam. …
