Additional sanctions against Russia and Syria for the bombardments of Aleppo are still on the table

The two heads of state insisted on an immediate stopping of the bombardments on Aleppo. US lifts sanctions on Myanmar/Burma

The US has terminated the national emergency related to Myanmar/Burma, lifting the sanctions that were imposed on the country in 1997 with respect to the actions and policies of the Government of Myanmar/Burma, in particular a deepening pattern of severe repression by the State Law and Order Restoration Council, the then-governing regime in Myanmar/Burma. EU extends sanctions over actions against Ukraine's territorial integrity

The EU Council (the "Council") has decided to extend the EU restrictive measures targeting actions against Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence. These sanctions consist of an asset freeze and a travel ban against 146 persons and 37 entities. They have been extended until 15 March 2017. According to the Council its assessment of the situation did not justify a change in the regime, nor in the list of persons and entities listed on it.

United States extends Cuba sanctions

The United States (the "US") has extended its trade sanctions on Cuba for another year, until 14 September 2017. In the end of  2014, President Obama announced that is was his goal to normalise the relationship between the US and Cuba, after decades of hostility, and the US has steadily eased its sanctions on the country since that time. However, on 13 September 2016 he announced that continuing the sanctions was in the national interest of the US.

OFAC fines PanAmerican Seed Company for Iran sanctions violations

PanAmerican Seed Company (“PanAm Seed”), a division of Ball Horticultural Company (“Ball Horticultural”), has agreed to pay USD 4.3 million to settle its civil liability for violating US sanctions by allegedly exporting seeds, primarily of flowers, to two Iranian distributors on 48 occasions between May 2009 and March 2012. OFAC determined that personnel (including several mid-level managers) from various business units within PanAm Seed and/or Ball Horticultural were aware of U.S. economic sanctions programs …
