EU and Swiss alignment on sanctions

On 28 February 2017, The EU Council published its conclusions on its assessment of the overall state of the EU relationship with Switzerland. One of the conclusions is that the EU Council encourages Switzerland to remain consistent in its application of the restrictive measures, including preventing any circumvention of sanctions. Switzerland is also invited to maintain its alignment with the EU Russia sanctions regime. Switzerland voluntary aligns to EU sanctions on a case-by-case basis.

Iran missile tests: US imposes new targeted sanctions

On Friday 3 February, US Treasury added 13 persons and 12 companies to the OFAC's SDN List. The sanctions are a stand against Iran's recent ballistic missile test. According to OFAC, the sanctions are aimed at persons and companies "procuring technology and/or materials to support Iran’s ballistic missile program, as well as for acting for or on behalf of, or providing support to, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF)". EU renews listings under the EU Russia sanctions regime

On 17 January 2017, the European Union ("EU") published a notice addressed to 50 people and 7 entities designated under the EU Russia sanctions regime, indicating that it intends to maintain their sanctions listings with new statements of reasons. Aban Offshore Ltd to pay USD17,500 for violating US Iran sanctions regime

Aban Offshore Limited (“Aban Offshore”), of Chennai, India, agreed to pay USD17,500, for violating the US Iran sanctions regime in 2008 with the Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC"). Aban Offshore violated the sanctions, when Aban Offshore’s Singapore subsidiary placed an order for oil rig supplies from a vendor in the US with the intended purpose of re-exporting these supplies from the UAE to a jack-up oil drilling rig located in the South Pars Gas Fields in Iranian territorial waters.
