In Memoriam Jhr. Michaïl (Mischa) Wladimiroff

Sadly, on 8 April 2025, the namesake and founder of our firm passed away at the age of eighty. Jhr. Michaïl (Mischa) Wladimiroff built an impressive track record during his career spanning over forty years as a lawyer. He was associated with our firm from 1976 until his retirement in 2015. During that time, he was a pioneer and one of the founding figures in the field of financial and economic criminal law. He was involved in numerous high-profile cases – both within and beyond this area – that attracted significant public attention. In the mid-1990s, he turned his focus to international criminal law, acting as defence counsel for the first accused before the Yugoslavia Tribunal.

Mischa was a trailblazer not only in the courtroom but also in the academic and professional development of economic criminal law. From 1986 onwards, he served as Professor of Economic Criminal Law at Utrecht University. He was also the founder and driving force behind many professional associations, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

Mischa was an extraordinary man, with a deep appreciation for the written word, a strong sense of impact and just outcomes, and an enduring passion for the legal profession. We are deeply grateful for all he has contributed to the legal field and to our firm.
